J. Friese Havelock, NC | I was an Intermediate Level Avionics technician. Repaired the AN/ASQ-155 Ballistic Computer System and later repaired the AN/ASN-92 Inertial Navigation System. Served with VMA(aw)-242/H&MS-13 at El Toro from 1981 to 1986. Transferred to VA-128/AIMD at NAS Whidbey Island from 1986-1989. Some of my best memories in the Corps come from this aircraft and the Marines and Sailors that supported it. 06/02/2008 @ 09:22 [ref: 21074] |
Al Lieberman Columbus, OH | I was introduced to the A-6E & KA-6D (tanker) in MAR 1976 when I checked into VA-85 at NAS Oceana. I learned more about the Intruder when attending Plane Captain training offered by VA-42 Framp. I worked the Line for about 1 year then transferred into the PowerPlants shop. As a newbie, I was rescued from going down the intake duct during my first solo launch aboard Forrestal (wasn't careful when exiting the nose wheel well) and eventually salvaged a launch while attached to the #2 Cat. An inexperienced Plane Captain trainee forgot to secure the CSD resevoir cap. Needless to say, I was showered with oil when I opened the stbd engine cover. The reward was when CMDR Peter Booth fined me for taking a "hollywood" shower (trying to get the oil off) at the end of flight ops. Zap (XO Zlatoper, at the time), I still appreciated your efforts, but so it's said, "rules are rules." 05/13/2008 @ 07:00 [ref: 20859] |

Adam Hodge Marietta, GA | Hey Guys,
I'm a big Intruder fan (Didn't get to see it fly much as was only seven when VA-75, The Last Intruder Sqn, Flew into the history books) and I'm trying to start up a collection of original VA and VMA Patches (Squadron,Shoulder,Decomm, Anything) and was wondering if anyone had anything they could offer? I have very, very little as far as Intruder Squadron Patches go and anything anyone could help me with, I'd appreciate it tons (Will even shoot a little $$ over if need be). I'm trying to do it as a keepsake along with Sluff squadrons.
If anyone can assist me, Please email me at HODGETCA@aol.com

A6 was a great aircraft! Brings back lots of memories.
Lots of close calls, and lost a few.
