| Kerry Popernack Mill Run, PA | Flew Navy-136748 out of NAS Oceana in the early 70s. Loved the bird. We went up and down the Eastern sea board delivering anything from parts to Lobster and beer. Took it back to the L.I. plant and a couple of old timers came out to look at it. | Bill Montague Oakland, CA | We currently operate Grumman C-1A Bu.No. 136781, a former VRC-30 aircraft based at North Island Naval Air Station, San Diego. We've just began flying her after about six years of re-work including both engines overhauled and new props and a bunch of major and minor improvements. The work was performed by Aerocrafters, a warbird rehab/maintenance shop at the Santa Rosa (CA) airport.
We would be happy to hear from anyone who has a story to tell about this airplane. We have made contact with a former X.O. of VRC-30, Cdr Doug Eller, USN (Ret), who now resides in Half Moon Bay, California. After 20 year in the NAVY and two Rate change AQ and AT, my best time was with the COD's. I still have my Thousand Hour Plaque from Grumman AirCraft company. My copy of the NATOP is still with me.
