| 1907 Oct, 01 | The Aerial Experiment Association (AEA) is founded. The members are: Dr. Alexander Graham Bell, Chairman; Lt. Thomas E. Selfridge, Secretary; Canadian pilots F.W. 'Casey' Baldwin and John A.D. McGurdy; and Glenn Curtiss, Director of Experiments.
Mabel Bell, Dr. Bell's wife, was instrumental in the forming of the AEA through her scientific enthusiasm. She also sold some of her property to finance their efforts.

| 1908 Mar, 12 | The first powered aircraft developed by the AEA, the "Red Wing", flew for the first time. "Casey" Baldwin was the pilot. Lt. Selfridge wasmostly responsible for its design. The plane received its name for the red colored fabric of the wings.

| 1908 May, 19 | Lt. Thomas R. Selfridge, made the first solo flight by a U.S. Army officer in the new 'White Wing', the AEA's second airplane, at Hammondsport, NY. He reached an altitude of 237 Ft.

| 1908 Sep, 17 | Lt. Thomas Selfridge was fatally injured in a carsh, during a flight test the US Army Flyer with Orville Wright at the controls. The accident occured at 5pm at Fort Myer, VA.
