I was stationed at HAFB in August 1962 just in time for combat ready operations in the 31ST Tactical Fighter Wing I was a Crew Chief on F-100D/Fs'. At this time I worked in Aircraft Records in Wing Headquarters under Colonel Collins. Suff was happening in late August; The Miami Herald reported a spy from a telephone ole photographing the flight line, weird things going on with the Autovon (Military version of the Federal Telephone Service). Curiously, no briefings as to forcoming events were forthcoming.

Too bad they don't have a website to tell potential visitors more about the place. No info, no go. Tsk tsk.

Deployed to Homestead for operation Coral Relief, from 1 August 1993 thru 15 October, 1993. Deployed with 28 Airmen from Griffiss AFB, NY. Where is everyone? Love this site. Enjoyed Homestead. Andrew or any other storm won't kill this beautiful area.

I just came accross this site. I was stationed at Homestead from Nov. 1957 until Jan. 1964, and again from Sept. 1978 until June 1981, when I retired. I was assigned to the 19th Bomb Wing, B-47 and KC-97. I was an Aircraft hydraulic specialist assigned to the hydraulic shop. My first TDY was to the Azores in 1958, with the KC-97 three months. Turned 20 while there, had a free birthday steak at the enlisted club there. Returned to Homestead, met a girl from Vero Beach, Fla. Went TDY to Sidi Salame, north Africa, B-47, Arrived there Nov. 1958, left there March 15th. back to Homestead. Married my girl friend. We had two children born there at the base hospital. The boy was born just before hurricane Dona wiped out Key Largo. Was there when we switched from B-47 to B-52 and KC-135. Durring the Cuban missile thing, my position was on the side of the runway as crash removal team, fortunately we did not have any. My wife was in the hospital for the birth of our daughter when I got orders for Lincoln Neb. back to the B-47. From there I went all over the world, including Japan, Tenn., Arkansas, Calif., our son started grade school in Japan, and finished in Folsom Calif. Our daughter started grade school in Tenn. and finished back in Homestead, was in Vietnam 4 times, 2 to 6 months at a time. Worked on all kinds of aircraft. Arrived back at Homestead in Sept. 1978, retired from there, June 1981. We are now in Lake City Fl., am still married to the same girl.

I was stationed at Homestead from June 1963 through August 1965, I was assigned to the 19th Bomb Wing , supply squadron and managed the Mobile Spares kit for the 435 Troop Carrier Grp (ARES). Homestead was a great assignment for a 20+ year old single guy.

I was the Florida Air National Guard Detachment Commander responsible for the air defense Alert Detachment from '84 '94 sitting alert with F106's and F16's. During that time, we were the most active air defense alert detachment in the business. Hurricane Andrew was the big news during this stay but we rebuilt and are still in business as of this writting, 2006.

Hi, I found this page and it says museum, but when I called to get information they said there is no museum. Why you are posted as a museum if you are not?
