| Darlene James Meridian, Idaho |  Can anyone help me locate my father? He was stationed at the Mountain Home Airforce Base in 1956, possibly as one of the grounds crew. I don't know exactly how to spell his name, but it is Bernie Shapiro. He also lived in Mountain Home at that time. I would appreciate any assistance that you could send me. | Lydia Stanford Ridgeland, Mississippi | My husband and I were stationed there in 1977. He was with CBPO (LaMonte Stanford) and I (Lydia Lee) was in Chapel Admisitration. He was the NCOIC of the mobility processing line back then. That he how we met. I was hoping someone might have a picture of the main base chapel back then. He has been bugging me to paint the willow tree that was in front. I would love to give it to him on our 30th anniversary. It was great to see that after all this time the base has been upgraded and kept in such great shape. I worked in Base Flight on \" Arnold \" , the T-29 A/C stationed there. | Charles Branch Cordova, Alaska |  For 9th BW Association: contact Richard Pittard, 1002 144th St. S., Tacoma, WA 98444-2011. Every other year, the annual reunion is held in the Boise area. I was born at the MHAFB hospital, and seem to make it back about every 22 years or so, the last time to volunteer at Gunfighter Skies '03 that featured a very short T-birds demo. Elmore County Museum was planning to devote a room to MHAFB, and would accept donations, as all they had for historical photos was a rather thin file folder. I did get enough of a feel to understand that when Mom speaks of the hospital as being a barn, it hadn't changed much in the thirteen years since the base had been built. Dad was a KC-97 navigator, PCS'g to the 28th ARS in 1959 to pick up the new KC-135s. After working on Snake River sturgeon research in the early '80's, I wound up here, and am hoping to soon obtain the remaining documents on a 1946 Aeronca Champ so that I can complete my private pilot certificate, and follow the flight paths of the former owners that served with the 64th FIS at Elmendorf in the late '50's. Strategic Air & Space Museum in Ashland, NE is outstanding! The Tokyo to London B-58 is on display (Dad's 135 escorted them through the start gate for that speed record run.) as was the Apollo 13 command module with Jim Lovell's scrawled message of thanks to Allied Signal Corp.
