If you're into the older stuff, excellent museum. Even if you're not, I think it's still worth the visit.

I would like to reniforce Mr. Gormleys comments My wife and I have visited the museum five times the last two summers and plan to continue our visits in the coming years. We are supporting members and feel that it is a great educational and enertainment investment. Now that the grandkids are old enuf to understand and enjoy the exhibits we will take to see the shows. I have been an aviation buff for many years and the exhibit of vintage airplanes and especially the WW1 replicas is fascinating for me. And then to get to see them fly is fantastic!! Anyone interested in vintage cars, engines, bicycles, and flying machines has areal treat in store for whole family when they visit Owls Head Museum!!!

Owl's Head has a terrific collection of pioneer-era aircraft and automobiles including more than 100 historic aircraft, automobiles, bicycles, carriages and engines. The Aircraft Collection contains replicas and originals representing the first century of flight, from Cayley’s unmanned glider (1804) to the legendary Curtiss Jenny of the barnstorming era. The collection includes a number of replica and restored antique aircraft in flying condition. In the summer, the museum hosts numerous ooutdoor festivities where you can see some of these rare aircaft in flight, and enjoy a pleasant afternoon checking classic cars, trucks, tractors, engines and even antique steam-rollers (which they race). The outstanding collection of automobiles spans the late 19th Century and early 20th century, and includes the 1963 Prototype Mustang and a 1935 Stout Scarab (called the world’s first mini-van, one of only six ever made) and numerous movie stars' cars, cars turned into snowmobiles and other arcane uses. I live about 30 minutes from the museum and take many of our guests to see the shows--and I always have a great time. There's a wonderful feeling of camraderie here, and the location in scenic Maine makes this place well worth the drive. Lots of great eating and places to stay nearby--but make a reservation if you plan to visit in summer. This collection is definitely world class in scope, quality, presentation and setting.
