Brian F. Laws , North Carolina | Its been awhile since any comments have been posted. The Sabre Society has opened up a museum at the terminal building of the Hickory regional airport. We have added a F-14D Tomcat and A-4L Skyhawk in recent months. We know have eight aircraft on display, as well as 2 that are hangered, thanks to the Navy, Airforce, and N.C Forest Service. The planes are parkedon the tarmac and an indoor museum with displays and a giftshop. 08/05/2007 @ 14:47 [ref: 6211] |
David C. Parham Rligh, North Carolina | Greetings! I understand there is a small jet now residing at the Sabre Society. My Uncle told me he had donated it, and I would love to come see it. I believe it is a jet of European origin. Also, may I also visit sometime to otherwise help with the restoration of aircraft? His brother, my dad, was a career Army pilot and loved planes; I have caught some of that love for aviation, and I'd love to visit and possibly help out. We travel from Raleigh, so the visits would have to be only occasional, but it would be an honor to visit and help in any way. Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you! JIM MALCOLM HICKORY, North Carolina | IN REPLY TO MR. ADAMS, YES WE DO CARE. THE 7 MEMBERS OF THE RESTORATION TEAM SPEND MANY HOURS EACH SATURDAY WORKING ON THE AIRCRAFT. THIS IS ALL VOLUNTEER WORK AND MOST SUPPLIES ARE PAID FOR OUT OF OUR OWN POCKETS. AND, AS FOR NEEDING HELP, YES WE DO. WE NEED AS MANY ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEERS AS WE CAN GET. WE WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY FOR YOU TO COME TO THE AIRPORT ON SATURDAYS AND HELP US RESTORE THE AIRCRAFT. 12/13/2006 @ 09:58 [ref: 5492] |

Ted Goetz Havelock, North Carolina | FJ-3m 141393 is beautiful and the paint job is dead on My wife and I stopped by Hickory on our way to Blowing Rock last month. We had heard it was at Hickory and we both had to see it. I flew that airplane during my tour with VMF-235 in 1956-57. It was during that tour that a squadron mate introduced me to the lady that has been my wife for the past 48 years so she also felt a real attachment to it. Still have some squadron memoribilia including two 8"x10" air to air division shots. No.12 sure would look good sitting here at MCAS Cherry Point. Any chance? We might have something to trade. 07/05/2005 @ 22:48 [ref: 4207] |
Jim Malcolm Lenoir, North Carolina | We have two problems with an airshow this year. First, the Sabre Society is out of money. We will not be able to have another airshow until we come up with a corporate sponsor that can pay the bills. Second, a new airline will be starting service into Hickory Airport in May. There would be too much conflict between the start up of the airline service and the airshow. Hopefully, we will be back next year.
