Don Marzke Chicago Heights, Illinois | I was sentenced to Cannon AFB from May of 85 till July of 89. While I was technically trained to work on the onboard radar jamming equipment, I spent the whole time fixing QRC 80-01 jamming pods. They were a variant of the ALQ 119 pod.
Clovis had nice people, but was amazingly boring. We used to pack up and go spend the weekend in Albuquerque, Lubbock, or Amarillo. Or else we would buy a keg, crank up the stereo, and play darts till we passed out. Darts was really big on base as most of the F111 maintenance people had spent time in England. 04/13/2008 @ 09:10 [ref: 7372] |
Jim Rohl Gulfport, Florida | I would like to get an original 522nd, 523rd, and 524th squadron insignia. Can you help? 02/29/2008 @ 08:33 [ref: 6860] |
Bernie Doherty , New Jersey | Got to Cannon in December 1969 and was assigned to the 4429th CCTS as a T-33 mechanic. As I was fresh out of Sheppard AFB training I spent most of my time refueling and washing the aircraft, but you gotta start somewhere. Found Clovis and the surrounding area pretty nice, and the people pretty friendly. Remember having to pull salvage duty at the local gunnery range to try and recover those blue 25 lb. practice bombs the jet student pilots learned to drop. Left there in June 1970 to go to Phan Rang AB, RVN where I worked on F-100D's and eventually got my own aircraft as a crew chief. 01/16/2008 @ 22:09 [ref: 6680] |
Michael Stolz , Michigan | I work on the F-111 autopilot for 522TFS from 1969 to 1971. Started on F-100 then F-111. From tubs to trasistors. F-111 was first digai air plane. 10/01/2007 @ 18:18 [ref: 6357] |

Mark D. Kapoh LA, Ca., California | I was stationed at Cannon AFB from 1984-1986 and was assigned to the 523TFS (F-111 D's). I worked in maintenance scheduling and as an Assitant Crew Chief. My sergeants were MSgt. Alvin Sayne, SSgt. George Peck, and SSgt. Sammy McKinnon. I have many fond memories of the F-111 and my service in the USAF but I don't miss getting those hot oil samples for NDI out of the old pig after every flight. I never did master getting a sample without burning myself. I crewed on 68-148 (TSgt. Johnny Parham), 68-120 (Ssgt. Greg Denning), and 68-142 (SSgt. Mendoza). 06/06/2007 @ 06:36 [ref: 5957] |
