Tom Schwartz Colville, Washington | Direct Duty Assignment out of basic training in August of 1966. Loved Plattsburgh - being a Southern California kid and used to seeing the air filled with smog, I was concerned when I first got there - couldn't see any air to breathe... Did a TDY to Thule, Greenland, on Project Crested Ice (B-52 crash) in '68 and then on to Viet-Nam in August of that year ('68 was a tough year) - went to Leadership School at PAFB after returning from Viet-Nam. One of my favorite assignments. 04/23/2008 @ 13:47 [ref: 7412] |
Dennis Taylor Clevela nd, Ohio | My first duty assignment was a Plattsburgh. I was an Admin Clerk in Base Operations. I really wanted to go to New York and I got off the plane in NYC and asked to cabbie to take me to the base. (What a jerk). I enjoyed my short stay there. I remember a club called, \"The House by the Side of the Road\" What a joint. 04/15/2008 @ 08:07 [ref: 7379] |
Dave Ohler Tempe, Arizona | I was stationed at PAFB 1973-1977 and was in the FMS squadron - (EC)Engine Conditioning - Jet shop. Even though I did not re up, and left the sevice, I was very saddened ti hear about the base closing. I had some of the greatest days of my life with the guys I worked with and will always appreciate how the older guys looked out for me. To all the guys who I served with - I salute you and hope all is well - TSGT Herb Tanner would be proud. 04/11/2008 @ 13:33 [ref: 7335] |
Dan Olson Spokane, Washington | I was stationed at P burgh from 75 to 87 as a jet mech with the FB's. Great place to be stationed, even met my wife there. I worked in Eng Conditioning, Q.C. and FTD. Once had a house in Cliff Haven along the lake. Long cold winters. I've been back a couple times - much of the base housing is gone. 02/24/2008 @ 19:02 [ref: 6844] |
William L. Dean Independence, Missouri | After completing basic training and tech school, I was ordered to Plattsburgh AFB in Dec of 1957. I was assigned to the 380th PMS later to become the 4020th OMS and finally the 4108th OMS. We provided the hangar/line inspection and maintenance for KC-97 tankers of the 26th and 380th ARS. Lt. Col. Robert Copley was our sq. commander and Col. Alvan Gillem II was 380th BW CO. In June 1961 I left beautiful Plattsburgh AFB with fond memories of people and experiences. 02/19/2008 @ 08:29 [ref: 6822] |
Caroline King , Louisiana | I was stationed at PAFB from Feb. 87 to Nov. 88. Had some really great times. Had some really great friends. Some co-workers were jerks but they got what was coming to them eventually after I left. Can anyone please tell me who was the senior enlisted advisor for most of 1988? Also, interested in knowing who the Correctional Custody Chief Master Sergeant was too. I can picture their faces but can't remember their names. They were both very nice men and were good examples to us lower ranking airmen. email me at:

Patty Hinten , Missouri | My husband was stationed at PAFB from June 1991 to June 1993. It was his first Air Force assignment and he worked in the base hospital. We lived in two different houses on Nevada Oval during our stay there. I am wondering if the housing on Nevada Oval is still there or has it been torn down? We really enjoyed our time at the base and in the city of Plattsburgh. What a beautiful area. It was a shame that they closed the base. 12/22/2007 @ 15:37 [ref: 6615] |
