Folks, a little update: FB-111A is no longer on its pedestal, the wings have been extended to their takeoff position, and the gear has been locked down. B-47E is also over at its new home on the east side of Rte 9, across the road on the Old Base. Someone has removed the two 20MM cannon from the tail, through their ignorance, and I have no idea where they are now. (They had been demilled, and sealed shut, no way could they ever be reactivated, don't know why they were removed.) Just for anyones info, I was stationed here from 1/64 - 3/67, on the flightline, so I can sympathze with comments about the cold. Worked on 2385 and her sisters, as well as the 52's, 135's, and transient acft.

Was stationed at PAFB from 85-90, yes it was cold but had alot of fun. I am the last crewchief for Acft 68-0286. The jet was grounded for a crack. I miss the base, the people and all the wonderful things we did to keep those jets flying

I was stationed at Plattsburgh from May of 1986 to January 1991. It was my first assignment. I was supposed to go to Guam and my assignment was changed. I was not happy at first but Plattsburgh grew on me. It was good assignment, just too cold. I like the fact that we were only 60 miles form Montreal, and near Lake Placid and Burlington. I have a lot of great memries.

Question for William L. Dean of Independence, MO, who started at PAFB in December of 1957 -- Do you know anyone who might remember a crash of a B47-E that was based out of Plattsburg and crashed off the coast of Newfoundland on September 17, 1957? Paul Pascal, my dad, was navigator/bombadier on the plane. Thanks.

1982-1987 380th SPS, C Flt. - Great base, wonderful people and cold, but fun winters. Loved the FB-111s and spent many a night sitting in the tower of the alert area right on top of them. The base was first rate as where, and I am sure still is, the people of Plattsburgh. It really was the best of times.

Direct Duty Assignment out of basic training in August of 1966. Loved Plattsburgh - being a Southern California kid and used to seeing the air filled with smog, I was concerned when I first got there - couldn't see any air to breathe... Did a TDY to Thule, Greenland, on Project Crested Ice (B-52 crash) in '68 and then on to Viet-Nam in August of that year ('68 was a tough year) - went to Leadership School at PAFB after returning from Viet-Nam. One of my favorite assignments.

My first duty assignment was a Plattsburgh. I was an Admin Clerk in Base Operations. I really wanted to go to New York and I got off the plane in NYC and asked to cabbie to take me to the base. (What a jerk). I enjoyed my short stay there. I remember a club called, \"The House by the Side of the Road\" What a joint.

I was stationed at PAFB 1973-1977 and was in the FMS squadron - (EC)Engine Conditioning - Jet shop. Even though I did not re up, and left the sevice, I was very saddened ti hear about the base closing. I had some of the greatest days of my life with the guys I worked with and will always appreciate how the older guys looked out for me. To all the guys who I served with - I salute you and hope all is well - TSGT Herb Tanner would be proud.
