My dad also served on the Croatan, though I am not certain of the dates. Probably late 43 through the end of the war. He was a radioman in a TBF Avenger, I am not sure what squadron. His name is Joseph P. Heiney, just turned 85. Luckily he is still very active and in good health. We are going to try and take him to D.C. to visit the WWII Memorial later this year. Along with dad, all three of his sons served in the Navy, 2 following in his footsteps in ASW (P-3's).

My father Jack Macgregor served on the Croatan as a flight maintenance crew chief from 42 till the end of the war. One of the pictures I have of he and his crew has a "Centanni" listed. I am married to a Centanni and would like to find out who he is since my wife is related to EVERYONE. Any ideas

Stephanie Sellers, Jeffrey Wallace and Brian Peters. My father-in-law was in charge of a photo group on the Croatan from July '43 to Dec '44. I believe we have information that would be of interest to you. Please contact me: MLVDK@aol.com. The reason Debbie King is not on this list of addreessees is that I have already been in touch with her.

I wrote an article about the Croatan's service in the mid-1960s when she was briefly employed by NASA: http://thespacereview.com/article/854/1 If anybody has additional information, I'd love to hear it. I can be reached at zirconic@earthlink.net

My dad was also on the USS Croatan--He is 82 now and told us tales about his service days--I would love to know if any of the crew gets together for reunions. My dad's name is Steven Voros and I think he would love to talk to someone who was also on the carrier.

Dear Jeffrey Wallace, CLifford Depew and Terry William, Just checked out this site and saw your comments. My father..who will be 84 on June 9th, was also on the USS Croatan. He was with the ship when it was commissioned...a plank owner. He was a gunner on CV25. Like all of you, I have heard many stories from my father and have printed everything that I could on the USS Croatan. I thought my father said they sunk 9 subs. They did a great job in anti-sub work and the ship should get more recognition. They rescued the survivors of the USS Warrington. A few years back, my father met a man who had the hat on from the Warrington...when my father said he was on the Croatan the man just hugged and thanked my Dad. They were friends until the Warrington survivored passed. We took my Dad back to the WWII memorial ...everyone was so happy and all the vets were hugging each other. Korean and Vietnam vets were hugging and thanking the WWII vets....young kids were coming up and saying Thank you too. It was amazing. I agree that our fathers need to get that recognition. Maybe we can work together somehow to get some credit for the USS Croatan the those men. Sincerely, Debbie King ddrac@aol.com

My father, Roy "D" Wallace also served on the USS Croatan from 1943-45. I agree with the other gentlemen who felt that it does not get the credit it deserves. Please contact me if you have a further desire to see that the USS Croatan gets some well deserved recognition.
