JOHN TAGGART LONDON UK, Texas | Hi i visited Dyess in May 2000 and have some photographs of all except the phantom and wondered if you would like them sent for your site the provider even had the tailfin missing cheers JT 10/05/2007 @ 09:13 [ref: 6367] |
Tim Austin, Texas | After 9/11, the security at Dyess was stepped up, the gates were moved out, and the static displays became off limits to non-military personnel. It's a real shame, because this is a truly fantastic display of military aviation history. I went there often before the security changes, and never tired of walking around the examples. You can still watch the C-130s and B-1s operate out of Dyess, but the static displays are unavailable, at least for now. I think group tours may be available, but individual tours are not allowed. 07/19/2007 @ 21:54 [ref: 6119] |
dave , New York | what a disappointment!!!
I recently visited Abilene, hoping to see the air park displays. there was a full page ad in the phone book about it, but no mention it was closed to the public. the rude females at the base entrance said I had to be in the military to see it. I said I could see part of it from the street. all she said to me was "yep". then she ignored me completely. 07/03/2007 @ 22:43 [ref: 6036] |
Roger Botting Atlanta, Georgia | The park is closed to visitors, looks to be a great collection, perhaps the base will make it avalable to the public again soon. 02/14/2007 @ 17:32 [ref: 5618] |

LtCol Myles J. McTernan USAR Ret. Folsom, California | I was stationed at Dyess from 1971-1975 and have many fond memories of Abilene. The Air Park was always a great site. I did not think at the time that a B-52D would be some day be one of the displays. I had the opportunity to fly the Buff during my tour of duty at Dyess with a few trips to SEA. A very forgiving aircraft even with severe battle damage it was able to fly my crew and I to a safe bailout zone. Thanks for keeping the history alive. 02/13/2004 @ 15:35 [ref: 2976] |
C.J.WADEY Brighton Sussex England, Texas | WITHOUT DOUBT THE BEST STATIC DISPLAY OF AIRCRAFT I HAVE EVER SEEN WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE STATIC DISPLAY AT THE ROYAL AIR FORCE REVIEW BY H.M QUEEN ELIZABETH II AT RAF ODIHAM IN 1953, AND AT WHICH I HAD THE HONOUR TO ATTEND AS A MEMBER OF THE GROUND CREW OF A LINCOLN BOMBER.
THE LINCOLN BOMBER WAS THE SUCCESSOR TO THE FAMOUS LANCASTER BOMBER BUT WAS TOO LATE TO TAKE PART IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR. 08/11/2002 @ 08:48 [ref: 2375] |
Homero A. Gonzalez Abilene, Texas | The B-52 on display at the Dyess Linear Air Park was my fathers airplane. It was one of the aircraft that he flew for many years while stationed at March A.F.B in Riverside California. I have many fond memories of crawling through the 52's when I was a youngster. When this particular aircraft was retired it was my father, Lt. Col Homero A. Gonzalez, that flew it to its final resting place at Dyess A.F.B. 07/29/2002 @ 01:06 [ref: 2311] |
Jay Columbus, Ohio | Hey Spot, the last KC-135A to roll off the line from Boeing was 64-14840. She is currently stationed at Rickenbacker IAP, Ohio with the 121st ARW. However, she has shedded her J-57's for the burly CFM-56's and refitted with the R mod! Great Jet too! 05/19/2002 @ 01:37 [ref: 2138] |
