Robert Wiggins Tallahassee, FL | From you Vietnam era Crane pilots, I need a little help. I was reading the "history" of the Crane and it listed others lost and only 1 bird shot down in Vietnam. ? ? ?
The reason for questions, I was Cobra pilot '69 with F Troop 8th Cavalry and have heard someone else's stories of a Crane being shot down sometime 'after' 1970. I can't find anything to support that story/claim.
I just hate to listen to stories of things that might or might not have actually happened !
Looking for enlightenment,

Deborah \"Deb\" Myers McKay Knoxville, TN | A couple of you I have already corresponded with, but am seeking more information. My father, CWO Forrest E. Myers, aka "Doc" Myers (in Germany), Mr. Myers, Chief, is alive and well and living in middle Tennessee. Anyone wishing to contact him, please e-mail me.
My daughter is putting together a scrapbook of his military career, focusing mainly on Vietnam. His first tour I do not know the unit that he was with, but he was maintenance officer, and flew Huey's out of An Khe. Second tour he was also maintenance officer, but flew the CH-54 Skycrane. I've been in contact with Mr. Olson and Mr. Reed, would love to hear more stories about him to add to his scrapbook. Our goal is to have it completed this year, as Dad will be 82 in April. But still as stubborn as a mule ::grin:: --
Please e-mail me!!

A J Reed , IL | Jim, Roger, Finally got a couple of photos to post of the crash. There were 2 or 3 fatalities if I remember correctly. The kid sitting next to me was cut in half at the waist by the tail rotor which was pretty much intact when it separated from the aircraft. 02/07/2008 @ 07:14 [ref: 19590] |
Roger Olson Columbus, OH | Jim, AJ, I was the mechanic that hooked up 414 to 425. The one main landing gear was broken off in the crash and 414 wasn't very stable from the down wash of 425. My pictures of the hook up aren't very good, they were devloped in country.
AJ, I was at Ahn Khy, DaNan AFB , Red beach and the 1st Marine Div. compound with the 382 from Jan.1968 till Dec, 1968. I think I have a picture of you and me in front of a tent at Red Beach.

Jim Sheridan Milford, NH | AJ, I was the Flight Engineer on 18425, the Crane from the 355th that picked up 414 and brought it out to Quin Yon(sp). Heard it was quite a sight to see it bust up, from reserch I did with Mike Law from the VHPA, there was a fatality from that crash. I submitted my pictures of 425 with 414 slung under it to the VHPA for their 2009 calendar. I transferred out of the 478th in March of 68 to the 355th, just before we lost the Crane in the A Shau. There is a web sight for the Skycranes Association for more pictures and info. 02/05/2008 @ 13:14 [ref: 19563] |
Adrian Reed Belleville, IL | Anthony Green, Roger Olsen, give me a day or two to upload photos of crash.. Did either of you make the move to Red Beach? 01/29/2008 @ 06:03 [ref: 19456] |
Roger Olson , OH | I was NCOIC from the 382nd that recovered 414 from the golf Course at Ahn Khe,and I have pictures.
Interesting side note. I was on the accident team from the Ohio National Guard that investigated the crash of the Skycrane in Cincinati,Ohio that slung a main rotor blade, there were 4 Cranes being trnafered from the Alabama National Guard to the Pa. National Guard. A/C 414 was one of the 4 a/c and it was 10 years to day, that 414 crashed at Ahn Khe 01/28/2008 @ 04:15 [ref: 19445] |
Anthony Green Hazel Crest, IL | to A J Reed: I was on 414 the day it went down at the golf course. I was with the 228th AVN BN at Camp Evans, and had gone to An Khe to clear up a payroll problem. 414 was actualy the second Crane lost in 1968. In April, 205 was shot down in the A Shaw Valley. I did'nt take any pictures of the crash site, and would like to see yours. 414 is in Oregon, and its flyable - immagine that! 01/16/2008 @ 22:46 [ref: 19329] |
Adrian Reed Belleville, IL | Ken Higginbotham, Joe Skinner, I served with the 478Th in'68-'69. Ahn Khe, Da Nang, and Red Beach. Survived crash in Sept. after a rolling takeoff with a max load. If memory serves this was the first Crane lost in Nam. Have some photos from all 3 locations and the crash. Drop me an
