Rick , AL | How well I remember the frist aircraft I ever strapped on-- the T-34A. That was when I started my Navy flight training at VT-1, NAAS Saufley Field, 1966. On my very first flight my instructor let me loop the little rascal with absolute joy! Inverted spin recovery was a piece of cake also (although not in the sylabus). 05/27/2008 @ 06:12 [ref: 21014] |
WARREN HESTER , IL | My first solo with the t34 was during cadet primary training
at Bainbridge air force base in 1959, a civilian run base located in Bainbridge Ga. What a thrill as a 19 year old this aircraft was. We went on to the T37 but I will always remember this noble forgiving aircraft that it was almost impossible to crash. I remember on one of my check rides with an air force captain, when I made an almost perfect power off emergency landing. Almost, except I forgot to lower the landing gear and the emergeny field I had picked out was a great hard surface runway. Whoops He caught it in time and passed me anyway. 11/19/2007 @ 08:35 [ref: 18588] |
Robert E.West Palmdale, CA | Every now and then the perfect setting for photographing a plane comes along. This shot of "Yellow Bird at the Springs" was just waiting to be taken. It's a T34A/A45 [N12281] that was there for a fly-in. 10/24/2005 @ 11:46 [ref: 11556] |

John Boyd Waco, TX | I have 400+ hours flying the T-34A in both USAF Aero Clubs and CAP. What a wonderful machine it was. Would enjoy visiting on line with other former T-34A drivers. 05/12/2005 @ 15:20 [ref: 10201] |
Pete Houston, TX | I soloed in the T-34 at Spence Air Base, civilian contract in 1956. Great aero but would loose prop control if negative gs on loop, etc. That deficiency caused fatality in our 56-G class. Student-solo was doing loops, fell out, prop overspeeded thru oil windshield obscuring vision pilot tried for open field landing and spun out on final. A/C Gordon Street. 12/24/2004 @ 10:02 [ref: 8946] |
sprite , OTH | I was an IP with the Philippine Air Force in the 1960s. We flew the T-34 at the PAF Flying School. Beautiful airplane, many a pilot first soloed in the Mentor. I hatched dodos from 12 different UPT classes. Nice website. 11/25/2002 @ 10:37 [ref: 6145] |
Ernie MORRIS alamogordo, NM | From 1961 to 1965 as a member of the Kingsley field Aero Club at Kingsley Field,Klamath Falls Or.I had the pleasure of flying aircraft N9181Z it was a great flying aircraft. If any one out there knows the current status of 81Z I woulsd like to hear from them or other former clubmembers that also flew her.just to bring tears to your eyes it cost a whole wopping 10.00 dollars an hour to rent.thanks for the chance to add my two cents, great site 06/03/2001 @ 00:27 [ref: 2399] |
Sheldon Watt Caledonia, ON | Anybody out there restoring a project? I have two O-47013a's as well, as complete firewall forward package as in oil tank, baffles, prop and spinner etc, etc that are now surplus to my needs. These parts are not certified in anyway. 01/11/2001 @ 07:20 [ref: 1365] |
Juan Carlos , FL | I would like to know about the problems of the Mentor, because this is and old machine nowdays. Thanks 11/08/2000 @ 19:17 [ref: 1016] |
