Karen Capellman Winchester, CA | Does anyone know of or possess a picture of the bomber, "Little Chum" serial number 42-39971? My uncle, Dixson I. Wands was the pilot on that bomber for most of his missions before crashing with 5 others to their death in 1944. I never knew my uncle, but would like to see the bomber and or receive a picture of Dixson and the crew as well. I found a book with a crew picture, but it is small and unclear. Thank you, Karen

I just noticed, after months of wondering if you got my message about the Black Heart, that my email address was entered incorrectly. Try m_mlaughead@yahoo.com if you want to reach me.

Richard Lohman Westville, IN | I am compiling a collection of information about B-17G SN: 42-40012 for posting up to the Internet. Any submissions (stories of crew members, photographs, copies of orders/documents, etc.) are welcomed, and credit will be given. 06/05/2007 @ 18:10 [ref: 16756] |

Eric, I never got a reply to my responses to your inquiry about the Black Hart. Hmmm. If you want to know more I have a fair amount of information. My uncle, Pete Moore, the ball turret gunner, is still alive as are several of the crew. Let me know if you want to get in touch.

Ed , OH | I had a uncle, Theadore "Ted" Schuler (now deceased) that was stationed in England and later mainland Europe during WWII. He worked salvage and told stories of retrieving crash landed bombers for repair or parts salvage. If there is any survivors out there that may of worked side by side with him, or have any pictures, please contact me. There are no survivors left from this era in my family, and I have children growing up now that should know a little aboute their ancestors and those that served our country with pride. 03/11/2007 @ 17:57 [ref: 15859] |
Michael Laughead Hollywood, FL | Another note to Eric Trujillo
Eric, I have a diary kept by the navigator of the Black Heart and several news paper articles and other data about the aircraft. My uncle Pete also survived 25 missions, flown with your grandfater, and bagged an ME-109 and two probables during his tour of duty. They also bailed out after the aircraft caught fire and landed in England. The co-pilot landed the Black Heart on the beachs of Dover and escaped before the bombs exploded. There is more to the story I would like to share. Contact me at m_mlaughead@yahoo.com
My uncle is my hero as well. I believe his advice helped me through the Viet Nam experience.
