PD (Scotty) Burns Merced, CA | As a former Gunner I really liked the "Tall Tail" with a little over 4000 Hrs 2900 Combat time. Flying out of Turner AFB, Columbus AFB, and McCoy AFB then on to Castle, Loring and back to Castle flying G's and H's (3000 hrs) and retirement. Then worked the WST till Castle closed.
If anyone wants to see some great looking aircraft come visit Castle Air Museum. The restoration crew keep the planes lookin top notch and every memorial day week-end we have an open cockpit day (2008-May 28th 9am-5pm. Selected aircraft will be open and you can get to see what they look like inside. This one of the few AIr Museums where this happens. For information call 209-723-2178.
Hope to see some of you out there.

Tom Burke Mount Shasta, CA | I was with the 99th BW at Westover from 66 to 70. I was the crew chief on 55-0091 during the last year of my tour. Does anyone know what happened to the plane? I had heard that it crashed coming back to UT during linebacker. Also, had been told that it was still off the end of the runway. 03/20/2008 @ 21:56 [ref: 20219] |

Wally , KS | Talk about a flood of memories. Couldn't believe it when I stumbled across the picture of B-52D 069 at U-Tapao. When stationed at U-Tapao I had my picture taken in front of this very aircraft. When in the Air Force I was a weapons mechanic (bomb loader), and our team probably loaded 069 on a number of occaisions.
So long ago, now.

charlie corbett REHOBOTH BEACH, DE | i was stationed at mccoy from 1970 till closing in 1974. i knew both of the pilots of that crash very well. i lived on base but was tdy to guam or thailand as were most of us doing our six month tdy's. we would get about one month at home then back over for six more months. wendell and barry did their absolute best to keep that jet out of the houses. they had their hands and legs full of throttles and rudder that day. with two engines out on one side and slow, the ole buff just didn't have enough rudder left to keep her flying...it was a very sad day 10/01/2007 @ 02:17 [ref: 18066] |
Mike Reed, MSgt, Ret Hesperia, CA | I was a Defensive Aerial Gunner (A11170S)on B-52d (Tall Tails) for 3 years at March AFB, Riverside CA, then was transferred into (short-tails), B-52h's at K. I. Sawyer AFB, MI. and flew them there for 2 years. There is a B-52d on permanent static display at the "Air Museum of the West" at March ARB, Riverside Ca. I forget the tail number - will have to check it, but i THINK it's 6058. 09/26/2007 @ 10:28 [ref: 18013] |
