Robert F Stearns Wilsonville, OR | Was stationed at Yakota AFB from 59 thru 61 with the 421st Air refueling on the post dock and later in the office working for Lt. Thompson and with A1C E.W. Allen. Worked on tech order files and drew charts. Great times with a bird that needed lots of TLC. 03/19/2008 @ 11:27 [ref: 20207] |

Bob Barnhardt , OTH | My dad Bill 'Barny'Barnhardt was in the 420th ars (engineer) at sculthorpe late 50s early 60s. It would be great to hear from anyone that knew him. By the way the crashed kb50j was his airplane and he saw it happen, incredible that there were no serious injuries. 09/08/2007 @ 05:09 [ref: 17869] |

Tom Fuson Peoria, IL | I was an engine mechanic on KB-50s and KB-50Js from '57-'60 in the 420th AREFS In Sculthorpe AFB, England.Re: upper left picture: We were lying around the barracks (I think it was a weekend) when we heard a loud explosion, and soon saw smoke rising from the flight line area. A bunch of us jumped in my truck, and rushed to the scene. We were all straining our eyes to see the tail number, and if we had worked on that plane recently. The plane crashed during landing, slid down the runway and broke in half. No one was hurt seriously, if I recall.
Re: lower right picture: That's not a "J" model. You can clearly see the fuel tanks under the wings. They were replaced by jet engines on the KB-50J. 08/16/2007 @ 11:06 [ref: 17630] |
