Tom , VA | Seeing that photo of 3616 reminded me of when they started putting those rooks (IE castle emblem) on the vertical stab.
I felt that they should have made it look like the emblem they used for the base!
Castle AFB: The way I recall the place was six months of endless sun shine and six months of rain and fog.
Of course those days of waiting for the fog to lift so that we could launch! and having to come back the next day because of the fog!
Every time I launched, I would have an over night bag with me.
I must mention the ORI's, because Castle AFB was a training base, all ORI's ran into the week-end!
And must not forget the hard alert we would pull up at Minot AFB. In my last year at Castle AFB is when the hard Alert pad at Castle opened for business. No more Alert TDYs.

Jim Tempe, AZ | As an old tanker pilot at K I Sawyer, Castle, March and Phoenix ANG, I am sad that more museums do not have an example of the -135 on display. Meanwhile, the "boneyard" at Tucson is positively awash in lines of them. 05/01/2008 @ 04:41 [ref: 20761] |
Tom , VA | Yes, I switched Gallons and pounds there.
I remember using JP-4 at 6.4 pounds to the gallon.
But then that is going back a ways.

DANIEL PAGE Peru, IN | These didnt burn no 200 Gallons a minute. Thats would be stupid. They did however burn more like 200 lbs. Even the R/t models are rated at 10,500lbs an hour cruise. Idle is around 4000Hr and at 6.7 lbs per gallon the about 579 gallons 04/18/2008 @ 20:07 [ref: 20612] |
