John Karr Altus, OK | Was crew chief and kicker on 02B at TUY HOA then Phan Rang, 466 was my tail number 1969-1970 05/21/2008 @ 06:44 [ref: 20966] |
JT Aviation Polk City, FL | I am designing a low wing aircraft for long range/observation purposes. It is called the LR-1 Rocket. It is the light low wing version of the Cessna O-2. Granted I am only 16 years of age, I could really use some help with designing. If you have any tips at all, please e-mail me or call (863)838-6037. 05/05/2008 @ 09:23 [ref: 20804] |
Dave Cooley, LtCol, USAF(ret) Great Falls, MT | I flew psyops missions with B-Flight, 9th SOS, Pleiku, from May 1968-May 1969. I was "just" a kicker whose day job rather sucked. I got to know all of the pilots of that period, and we flew all over II Corps, partied very hard, and became very close friends. I've completely lost touch with these guys, so if any of you read this, please do NOT hesitate to email me. You know who you are.
I have a lot of pictures, some of which I'll try to upload in the near future. 12/19/2007 @ 21:03 [ref: 18973] |
Myron Janzen Houston, TX | I flew the O-2B out of Phan Rang, RVN from Oct 70 to Oct 71, and I would like to contact former pilots who flew with me in the 9th Special Ops Squadron. I had written a similar note in 2005, but came to realize there was no means of contact in the text. I can be contacted at mrjanzen@gmail.com I am looking for O-2B's that I flew in RVN and hope to locate some of them in this manner. 12/03/2007 @ 08:29 [ref: 18773] |
Rick Watson San Jose, CA | I was crew chief on the five 0-2B's that were in Pleiku in 67-68. I kicked leaflets on many missions with some great pilots. We had the first 0-2's in-country before they were even painted with the camo. Great airplane. I can still pick out the sound of one flying over before ever seeing it.
I was with the 9th ACS at Pleiku AB. 10/01/2006 @ 18:42 [ref: 14343] |
Robert Ritter Aiken, SC | I flew over 300 missions over Laos and in I Corp in the O-2 at Pleiku and Da Nang in 1968-69. The O-2 was a beautiful aircraft to fly and could take a lot of abuse as we put it through it's paces pretty aggressivly when 23MM 0r 37MM opened up over the " Trail ".
A few years ago while attending an air show at Shaw AFB in SC, a black O-2 was on display. I checked it's records as Pleiku was the only base that flew black O-2 to the best of my knowledge and confirmed it was definitely a Pleiku aircraft. It even had a patch in the right boom from a 50 cal hit I was aware of. It blew my mind to sit in an aircraft I had flown over the TRAIL almost 40 years ago.
That aircraft is used to survey the coastlines and is in excellant shape. 11/30/2005 @ 07:29 [ref: 11844] |
Myron Janzen Houston, TX | I flew the O-2B aircraft out of Phan Rang AB, Vietnam from 1 Oct 70 to 1 Oct 71, and I can't recall an airplane that I've enjoyed flying more than the modified Cessna Super Skymaster. During this time in RVN, I flew 22 of the 31 O-2B's that had been produced. I kept a logbook of the 180+ flights that I made and the names of the persons with whom I flew. I would like to reminice with the pilots that I flew with during that time. Contact me when you have the time. 01/19/2005 @ 15:20 [ref: 9187] |
Craig Clary Hemet, CA | to all the air and ground crews in the O-2 Community, the 1967 (former) U.S. Air Force O-2B Super Skymaster
s/n 67-21465 is currently located at the March Field Air Museum, March ARB in Riverside, California.
I am currently looking for anybody who may have either worked on or may have flown this particular aircraft, iether in Vietnam or here State side, can you please get in contact with me, I would really like to speak with you. 12/12/2004 @ 17:22 [ref: 8851] |
Larry Watts Collierville, TN | I should have some photos of the O2, haven't looked for them in several years, but know they are buried somewhere in the attic. I was with the 9th ACS April, 1967 to April, 1968 stationed out of DaNang. Though not a pilot, I logged a lot of hours in the O2, mostly on leaflet drops.

Maj Donald T Duke, USAF (Ret) Hopkinsville, KY | I had the distinct pleasure of flying the O-2B while assigned to the 14thACW/SOW from Nov67 to Nov68 at Nha Trang AB, RVN. I was assigned as the wing Flying Safety Officer, which almost gave me carte blanche to fly as much as I could and be out of wing HQ (I hated desk work, and managed to piss-off the Chief of Safety more than once). I flew with the fine members of the 9thSOS, and logged about 300 hours on both PsyOps and Low-Level Perimeter Patrol missions. I literall fell in love with that little aircraft, and wouldn't take anything for the experience of flying it. It was generally a very reliable aircraft; we had two instances of main gear not coming down, resulting in foamed runway belly landings, and I personally experienced a fuel pump failure (rear engine shut-down) and a malfuctioning starter solenoid. We lost one to ground fire in Oct68.
(Also managed to get checked out in the C-47. You haven't live until you've flown the Gooney Bird.) 03/11/2002 @ 01:49 [ref: 4485] |
