I remember the U-3B while I was stationed at Whiteman AFB in 1964-66. I was lucky enough to hop a ride to Offutt AFB and return to Whiteman. The purpose of my visit to Offutt was to deliver a fresh (frozen) 5 pound largemouth bass to a Captain C.P. Comte. He was my administrative officer at RAF High Wycombe AB, 7th Air Division. Prior to my leaving High Wycombe for Whiteman I promised him a fish freshly caught and held true to my promise. When I arrived at Offutt he met me at the flight line fire station and I surprised him with the fish. Good memories.

My first duty assingment out of tech school in 67/68 was the U3-B at Offutt. As I reacll we had about 12 of them for the SAC HQ pilots to keep current.

I was assigned as Crew Chief on two U-3B's at Tan Son Nhut Air Force Base in Vietnam Sept. 1968 to Jan. 1969. I maintained these two air craft for the main purpose of allowing Air Force Generals to get thier monthly flight time. We flew many mission last less than two hours.

The U-3B's (Blue Canoe's)were assigned to Detachment 1 460 Tactical Recon. Wing at Tah Son Nhut.

I was reassigned to a C-47 late in January of 1969.

When I was stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB,AZ in the mid-sixties, we called the U-3 a chase plane. It would fly along with a U-2 Spy Plane on training missions. There would be a U-2 pilot in the U-3 flying alongside the U-2, giving instructions to the new pilot in training. There were only a couple of modified two-seater U-2's at the time, so the chase plane served as a second seat. They were assigned to the 4080th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing. I was a U-2 radio repairman. Peace!

I am just in the process of purchasing a U-3B. It is my goal to paint it with the original military paint scheme.

If you have any photos that would help me complete this, they would be greatly appreciated.
