Consolidated C-109 'Liberator'

Paul Fricks Mocanaqua, PA | My father was in India as a line chief on C-109's and C-54's. He referred to the C-109 as a "C One-Oh-Bomb". Apparently due to what happened when one fully loaded with gasoline did not successfully take off. 05/07/2008 @ 16:43 [ref: 20823] |

I served as a radio operator crewmember on the C-109. Delivered one from Nashville,TN to Tezgaon, Bengal, India arriving 25Dec44. Made nine trips in nine different planes delivering avgas to five different airfields in China from 13Jan45 to 4July45. One memory was climbing above Chengtu, China to 29,000 feet and was still in the "soup" (overcast). I think the C-109 was a pretty strong aircraft but we fliers were glad to transition to the C-54. 08/22/2007 @ 15:41 [ref: 17722] |
