Convair C-131F 'Samaritan'

Chuck Patch Gainesville, FL | In 1980-81 I was stationed at NAS GTMO, at first in the line shack, later in the line avionics shop. Chief Spelissy was my line supervisor, and Senior Chief McCord was over all of the maintenance shop. Both of them helped me greatly through some rough spots, with some tough but fair guidance, and I owe them for that.
After being misplaced for about two years I recently located the Jacksonville Times Union article about the mishap I’ve hung onto all these years. Rather than post it here scans can be seen at http://picasaweb.google.com/FmrAT2.
I hope this article is helpful to those of you seeking more information about that sad day. If you’d like to contact me my e-mail is chuckpatch@comcast.net.

Thomas McCaskill (AT2, 69-73) Myrtle Beach, SC | I served as radio operator on board 140999 when she was assigned to NAF Naples as transport for COMSIXTHFLT, COMFAIRMED and AFSOUTH. I've often wondered what happened to the old girl. Those were good years. Commander Spaulding was in the left seat, LT. Neal Fullen most often flew in the right seat, Chief Ernnie Polanka kept us out of trouble (when he could). 05/31/2008 @ 07:31 [ref: 21063] |

My father was CMDR Larry D. Barnett, the pilot of the c131 when it crashed . I still have the GTMO Gazette with the front page dedicated to the memorial service the base had for all the lost crew members.I was in Texas in private school at the time. I hope they do a plaque or memorial. Feel free to contact me ! 03/17/2008 @ 02:27 [ref: 20053] |

Danny Whitehead AZCM Retired Newport News, VA | Mike,
I was stationed with your Dad from Jan.1974 - Oct.1978 in GTMO. I was stationed with AFCM Fielder in VA-94 when the word came out about the crash. I knew your Dad was the FE when I found out where the bird went down because he always took those flights. It was a super sad day even though I was in the process of Chief's Initiation at the time. Your Dad was a fantastic Man and Shipmate. 01/07/2008 @ 12:44 [ref: 19185] |

Mike McCord GTMO, Cuba, OTH | I've recently returned to GTMO and now I'm in the process of getting a memorial here to remember the individuals that died in the C-131 crash in 1983.
I'm interested in gathering any information of the crash so I can put together a request to the Command to support the project. I'm attempting to have everything in place for a ceremony next May, the 25th anniversity of the crash. Please send information to: michael.mccord1@us.army.mil
Any help is greatly appreciated. Mike 08/12/2007 @ 12:53 [ref: 17578] |
