Bob Kennedy ADR3 St. Louis, MO | Does anyone know if we can still read some of the older Comments posted here? If so, please let me know.
By the way...a note to Paul Milligan...sorry Dude, but I'm pretty sure you would have been there when I turned off the mags at high RPM. It happened in 1970, maybe 1971 it's been too long ago to remember exactly. However if you left VT-29 BEFORE Celia, then you missed the action, because I do know it was after her visit.
And yes we did a pretty good job of keeping the incident quiet. There were only five us out there...a guy on the fire bottle beside the engine...Cliff Marville on the ground talking to us, a Radioman sitting in back, Berry Grabenstien in the co-pilot seat, and of course myself in FULL CONTROL, or lack of depending on how you look at it, in the pilot's seat.
And I don't think the Radioman or the guy on the fire bottle even knew I was the one turning the engines. And Cliff, Berry, and myself were all good friends and I know we didn't say a word to anyone. I don't remember the Radioman's name, but he was also a good friend, so he wouldn't have said anything if he did know.
As for as I know, the first time the story has ever been told was when I posted it here.
Well anyway, if anyone knows how to get to the older comments I would appreciate it if you would let me know.
Take care.

Elton Jones , OH | I was a crew chisf on VT-29B 51-5167 aircraft at Wright-Patterson AFB 1971-1973. I remember fixing a oil leaks on the engines and standing on maintenance stands to refuel, put oil and ADI in the engines. Great aircraft! 11/28/2007 @ 06:59 [ref: 18700] |
Bud Southworth , WA | I was a VT-29 celestial navigation student in 1963. I flew in both the C-117 & T-29, my log book lists the BuNos. if anyone is interested. Does anyone have a squadron patch or know the patch design? I remember we shut down an engine in the T-29 on several occasions - usually for an oil leak or sump plug light. There was one actual failure where the engine started to backfire etc. we diverted into New Siberia, La. Also on a flight from JAX to Myrtle Beach we flew through a hail storm - put holes all over the leading edges - broke out windscreens. Think the BuNo. 52-1117.
Thanks, Bud 11/18/2007 @ 14:46 [ref: 18583] |

Roger Rhea Jonesboro, AR | Almost forgot, Bruce, I remember when you almost tore your finger off when your ring caught on the side of a check stand, and how much the artist you were. 05/30/2007 @ 13:38 [ref: 16672] |
Roger Rhea Jonesboro, AR | I was at VT-29 from 73 till 76. I see where Bruce and Moe have posted here. I remember you guys. We had a tone of fun back in those days. I too went through the flight physiology, dunker, chamber and all at Pensacola. I was attached to the detachment in Pens from July of 73 till November of 73. I flew as a fight crew plane captain on the R4D's of which we had 2, the T-29B and C and I think we ended up with 1 D model before decomissioning. I recall a flight to Davis Montham in "my" T-29. It was 3C-25 and had my name on the under side of it (AE2 RHEA). Went to DC and pulled liberty with Chief Bryant onetime. We had a blast. Wonder what ever happened to Chief Everly. 05/30/2007 @ 13:36 [ref: 16671] |
