Paul Dwyer , NY | There is a P-40N at the Air Zoo (http://www.airzoo.com) in Kalamazoo, Mich. This aircraft was flown for many years on the airshow circuit by owner and former WASP Suzanne Parish. It is memorable for its pink paint job, replicating sun-faded desert camouflage. 12/08/2005 @ 19:39 [ref: 11919] |

Justin Upton Gilbert, AZ | I belive the correct answers to what the terms Tomahawk, Warhawk and Kittyhawk designate are as follows. The first P-40's(Curtiss designation Hawk 81A)ie: the P-40B&P-40C were called Tomahawk by the RAF.
The second series P-40's(Curtiss Designation Hawk 87A)ie: all subsequent P-40's, were called Warhawk by the USAAF and Kittyhawk by the RAF. 12/05/2001 @ 03:52 [ref: 3775] |
John Barclay Woodland, AL | I was under the impression that the P-40-E, was designated the"Kittyhawk",and the P-40 through P-40-B was the "Tomahawk".These used the direct-drive Allison v-1710 engines. The P-40-F, was called the "kittyhawk-II.It used the Packard built "Merlin" engine, along with the P-40-L.The P-40-K through P-40-N was called the "Warhawk".John Barclay 10/24/2001 @ 22:44 [ref: 3474] |
