Steve, your Georgia Peach TBM3E was flown for three hours by my late father-in-law USNR Lt. John A. Kramer, Jr. from Bennett Field Brooklyn NY on 29 April 1950. only entry I can find in his log books regarding that particular aircraft. He was assigned to Naval Reserve Anti-Submarine Unit VS-831. Walt, additional info regarding the question you have on the SK designation.I'm not sure what or where the SK was based, but the TBM3E Bureau No. 53688 was later designated SD and the number 5 was painted on the nose cowling. This aircraft was flown by USNR Lt.John A. Kramer Jr. from the U.S.S. Block Island (CVE-106) out of NAS Norfolk, VA as part of the VS-831 ASW unit. On 31 January 52, after a two hour flight, somewhere in the Atlantic, he was attempting to land when the right tire blew out and caused the plane to veer over the deck of the carrier and ended upside down in the ocean. The plane was lost but Lt. Kramer was rescued by the crew of the U.S.S. Stribling (DD-867) several minutes later. Hope this info helps. 10/18/2007 @ 17:04 [ref: 18232] |
