I was a member (Crew Chief/Mechanic) for the first Mohawks in Korea 1962/63. We arrived in Korea and a few months later the Mohawks came in. I was with the 15th Aviation 1st Calvary Division and we were all sent TDY (Temporary Duty) to the Korean Airbase in the middle of the Han River at Soul Korea (Yoedo) Island. The group was made up of Mechanics and Pilots form at least 3 divisions.

Some of the names are:

I am simulating planes in the round the world race with avsim, and was looking for fast prop planes; found this one and although it isnt as fast as some, it is still an awesome looking plane and is a joy to sim.

I was a general mechanic and ejection seat specialist with the 20th ASTA/131st Aviation Co. from Ft. Riley, in 1965, to Phu Bai in 1966. Some pictures of mine have been posted at the web site www.ov-1.com if anyone is interested in viewing them. I would be interested in hearing from anyone stationed with me.

I flew the 138th out of channel 69 RVN 1971 to 1972 and was always in awe over your birds, how cool they looked and sounded.I think i remember one crashing during monsoon off the end of the runway something about going inverted, yep vertigo,I experenced it once or twice my self while climbing out looking for the tops.....I was trying to remember when the 131st stood down.Any who, nice site.

I was stationed with the 17th Trans Det at Boscomantico, Italy: Verona Army Air Field from December 1967 to December 1968 and I was the only 68F20 Aircraft Electrical Systems Repairman in Italy during this time. I worked on several of the OV-1's we had there. I even had to go on site for recovery when one crashed into the side of a mountain, killing both pilots. I have always liked working on the Mighty Mohawks, but never got over my fear of the seat ejecting me. Don't laugh, it happened to a guy in our unit and he went right through the hanger roof and was hurt really bad. Back in 1966 to 1968, for the US Army, the Mohawk was space-age technology and how I enjoyed the sound of their engines.
