In 1958, I was sent to NAAS Kingsville,Tx.and ATU 402.
Fresh out of AE "A" school,I was a little disappointed
seeing the S2F for the first time. Being just 19 years old,
I knew they were not fast enough for me. After a few months
of working on these planes and learning what they were
capable of,you couldn't help but be very proud.
I only wish I could have gone to Louisiana when they were
moved in 1960. Does anyone know where I can get a patch
insignia of the Mother duck teaching her little ones to fly?
Thanks to Grumman for one hell of an airplane!!

I SERVED WITH VS38 AT NAS IN SAN DIEGO AND FLEW AS RADAR AND MAD AND ECM OPERATOR. I WAS A AM2.I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN FINDING ANYBODY FROM MY SQUARDON. MY YEARS WERE 1957 TO JAN 1960. I LOVED FLYING OFF AND ON THE CARRIERS WITH AIRCRAFT. SHE HAD A LOT OF POWER WITH OR WITHOUT THE CAT.

Flew out of N.A.S. Norfolk,1955/1956 (FAETULANT) as radar flight instructor in S2F's, what a thrill it was for me to sit in the co-pilots seat during take offs & landings, something I have never forgotten. Bob

I was an AT2 with VS-31 59-60 Q.Pt./Wasp. Someone mentioned havng he "nukes" around. When we had the duty there was one in the middle of the hanger. You could walk up to it and give it a kick, during the day. When we secured for the day, a Marine Sentry would come and cover the thing with a tarp and you didn't even dare to look at it. In case I forgot to mention it, VS-31 was the worst duty I ever pulled in my life. Sucky outfit in those days.
