On July 7, 1943 an F6F-3 Hellcat crashed during a training mission over the United States, killing the pilot, Danny Walker. The pilot was part of a 4-plane flight. The wreckage of his aircraft was found by a US Army P-63 Kingcobra which was flying out of Lubbock Field, Texas. It is not known wether the pilot was injured in the crash or not.

The cause of the crash, which occurred 50 miles north of NAS Almeda, California, was not known.
