Was in HMS-32 in `1973 then VMA 513, did first med. cruise. Went to VMA 542. If we werent packing we were unpacking. Would not trade exp. for anything. Was in Flight Equipment.

I worked with the Harrier in VMA-542 as a plane captain and deployed to Kadena twice during my time in 1978 thru 1982. I remember Gunny Knowles, Loudin, Lou Clayton, Leo Nieves, Jorge Nieves, Kevin Opuda, Goode, Higginbotham, David Rentas, O'Shea, Lt. Murray, Major Mattke, etc., etc. etc...

Good and bad times, but a valuable learning experience.

Chuck, I remember having the harrier arrive at Cherry Point in crates in 1974. This would of been when they were building up VMA-542 and VMAT-203. I did time with VMA-513 while I was over seas.

I was with MABS-32 MAG-32 70-72. I was the Marine that unloaded the first VMA-513 Harriers. They came in on Air Force C-141's in 3 pieces and I would off load them in the hanger with my crane.
Anyone at MCAS Beaufort during that time?

Hi Ed, I came to 542 in the summer of 76. Did you ever know a Ben Cruz, or Dennis Knowles? It was nice to stand behind the warm exhaust on those cold days and nights.

I was in VMA-513 Ordnance from 1971 until early 1974 when I was assigned to 542 until my discharge. It was a fascinating plane and the exhaust was nice and warm on those cold mornings at Bogue Field!!
