Let's get the matter straight...the super hydromatic propeller DID NOT GO INTO REVERSE WHEN IT LOST ITS OIL. It went into flat pitch thereby losing it's forward thrust and creating a drag. It takes oil pressure (3000 psi) to put the blades into reverse pitch. Had Hughes the presence of mind to shut off the engine, he could have made it back to the field on one engine. The investigating board (I was on it) determined that it was "pilot error" that caused the crash. I was there...the service engineer on these propellers. Got questions????contact me.

I contacted the aircraft museum at Shepard AFB in Texas and they have know record of this aircraft ever being there. Any additional info would be helpfull
