I was the first engine man in Det 17 when it was formed at Davis-Monthan AFB in 1961.We recieved ac # 60-256 and 60-257. The CO was Capt Bill Hayes, the NCOIC was Bill Eckert and the rest of the inlisted crew was Hector Gonzales, Jaime Yslas, Presley MCQuigg and Ken Laneve. Later Tom Gummo arrived. The pilots were Gayl Bernhardt, Stan Schetzel(sic)and I can not find the records for the 4th pilot.Stan was later aworded a flying cross for a rescue he pulled of in Nam. I was discharged in oct 62. I do have pics of both ac and am curious as to where they went after the outfit was disbanded

Wow, talk about memories. I was a Aeromedical Tech assigned to USAF Hospital at William AFB, AZ. 1969-72. We assisted in all types of medical emergencies. From air craft accidents to highway accidents to boating. What a awsome craft to be involed in. I'm fifty seven years old and still involved in the medical field. Not one day goes by without thinking of all the excitement that that expierence brought me. Thanks

Bill Dean - I knew you, too while I was at Luke. John Lee just contacted me as he saw my name at this site. I guess it all works.

Anybody contact me - I love to talk about the "old days" and flying in the "whistling outhouse".

I flew as a flight mechanic on 59-1578 and 59-1579 at Det. 17, 42nd ARRS, DMAFB, Tucson, AZ. I was the second to the last unit member to leave after the Air Force shut down the LBR mission. The listing above says 1578 is at the National Atomic Museum. It is actually on display at the 58th SOW campus on the west side of Kirtland AFB, NM. As of 2002, tail no. 59-1579 was under civilian registry as N3268D to a Montana rancher.
