Ron Franken San Jose,, CA | Aircraft tail number 54-0159 was transfered from VR7-Det Alpha at Tachikawa AFB, Japan to the Pennsylvania Air National Guard when VR7-A was dis-established. I was a Navy Flight Engineer who ferried the aircraft from Japan to Pittsburg. VR-7A was a U.S. Navy squadron assigned to the Military Airlift Command and conducted operations in Southeast Asia with a regularly scheduled weekly medical evacuation flight into Viet Nam during the early years of the war. 159 had a distinguished career. 08/28/2007 @ 14:58 [ref: 17782] |

Cdr Gerald Durbin Pontotoc, MS | We are a group of retired military personnel that have been restoring a WV-2 at Rantoul for the past 5 years and currently working on a WV-2 at Warner Robbins AFB, GA.
In addition, we have recently stripped 9 P2V's of avionics and instruments to rebuild the WV-2 (EC-121K), P2 (147954)and P2 (135588) display at WR over the next several years. We have purchased a P2 and will be shipping it to WR to make into a display (hull only).
Our group has spent over 15,000 hours restoring aircraft and anyone interesting in helping during May and October, please contact me via email for details. 07/02/2006 @ 12:36 [ref: 13635] |
Robert E. Daniel Altus, OK | Its great seeing the pictures of the Connie. I was a flight engineer with TEW 193 on the Connies both EC and C models just prior to the change over to EC130S. I find that most pictures and description of the EC121S are incorrect as the show radoms both upper and lower. There were 7 individuals in the last class full performance qualified piston engineer, myself being one of them. I have a lot of great memories of the Connie (EC121S). Flew in 2 RED FLAGs and also crewed 54-0157 to the Boneyard(1978). Would like to hear from any of the TEW 193 Connie engineers. 06/19/2006 @ 07:26 [ref: 13545] |
Herman M. Ziegler Trotwood, OH | Comments to Dale Bashore......Your missions still depended upon the Avionics section....just a little humour for this section.....I will always remember the 193rd 02/23/2006 @ 03:27 [ref: 12590] |
Joe Conlan Tampa, FL | Spent 17 years in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of all the A/F's EC121's and the navy's WV-2's at LAS-NY from August, 1954 thru July, 1971. 04/10/2005 @ 20:54 [ref: 9923] |
Dale A Bashore , PA | I stand corrected, thanks to CMSgt Harold Bowman, the EC121-S had only 4 aircraft built in the Solo configuration. All the tail numbers mentioned were considered EC121-S by the USAF, but only 4 had the Coronet Solo equipment installed. 02/14/2005 @ 19:08 [ref: 9437] |
Dale A. Bashore Harrisburg, PA | There were six EC121S ever built by Lockheed Air Service, New York (LASNY). The aircraft were flown by the 193rd Tactical Electronics Warfare (TEW) Unit, Pennsylvania Air Nation Guard in Harrisburg, Pa. from 1967 until 1982(?). The aircraft was equiped with 10,000 watt AM Transmitters, 10,000 watt HF transmitters and 1,000 watt TV and FM transmitters. These systems were used to broadcast in comercial broadcast bands. The picture shown over the rice patty is a depiction of the units deployment to SEA during the Viet Nam war, for which it received an USAF Outstanding Unit Award, with "V" for Valor. Air Force Tail numbers of the EC121S were 54-0155,54-0157,54-0159,54-0164,54-0173,
54-0183.
