Dan, Can you contact me regarding the NF-104 and your role as a rocket engine mechanic on tail number #760? Thanks, Dale

i was a rocket engine mech on nf-104 tail number 760. i read the story written my Col Smith and was in total agreement with him! He was not only a great pilot, he was a great guy to know. He and his wife would show up on saturdays if we had to work on the plane. the plane i worked on is now on a pedestal at edwards afb...i'm just glad that they don't do that to old retired sergeants!

I must appologise for my comments toward David Best. I was bored off my butt near the end of my shift, so I left work early. I drove over to the NASA museum, past TPS, past the base gym and over to the AFFTC Museum. Mr. Best may just be right. BUT none of the 104s here on base are marked 790. There is a 820 (which is the one he said use to be 790), 760 (in front of TPS, 826 (NASA Museum) and 52965 (in front of the gym).

So David Best, I'm sorry for trying to call you a liar.

OH, and there are 4 NF-104s and F-104s here on Edwards AFB. 820 is at the AFFTC Museum, NASA has 826 in their museum here on base, and then there's the two I mentioned in my last listing.

If you go and look at all the pictures of the F-104s here on this site, you will find out that David Best has 4 pictures of "S/N: 56-0790 Reg: n820na" posted. DAVE, you are wrong!! 790 is either the one out in front of the base gym or the one out in front of TPS, here on Edwards. One of these two is 790 and the other is 760. Will post pics this week to show you.
