Mike \"Miguel\" Barbour Abell, MD | Enjoyed an interesting '88 - '91 tour in Kef. Flew many hours on "Hagar" as one of the station FE's. Met a lot of good folks in Kef, especially the dedicated and professional technicians at OMD, that kept the plane in an UP status. Outfitted with passenger-type aircraft seats, its configuration enabled the crew to perform a variety of logistics missions, primarily ferrying personnel on Environmental, Morale and Leave (EML) flights or government personnel for various occassions. Especially enjoyed the West African Training Cruises (WATC), when we would ferry USCOMSOLANT and a group of Navy Band members to 19 various West African countries to "show the flag" and enhance cultural relations between the USA and visited countries. 150495, for the most part, was very reliable and was able to perform the missions well. Bill Rustmann Patuxent River, MD | I had the pleasure of flying on the Kef bird from 1989-1992 prior to transfering to VXN-8 here in PAX. It took me all over and being a crewmen on it, everyone on base wanted to know you. Mainly for car parts when you went back to the States. It was a good 3 years. Sad these planes are retiring. 148883 is on a pedistal here at Pax, first production P-3. 148889 is also here at PAX, it belongs to the Test Pilot School and will soon be it's second flying classroom. Lindsey Donald Edwardsville, IL | The UP-3A "Valkyrja" was the first aircraft I had the pleasure to work on during my tour of duty in NSKEF Iceland (86 - 87). I felt that this was the easiest airplane to work on. Very durable. I recently downloaded a picture of this beautiful airplane.

David Willett Waterford, MI | Spent a wonderful three years in Kef as crewman on "VALKYRJA". Hard to believe she is resting in a boneyard. If she is in Davis Montham AFB it is fitting. We used to take her there to rob parts from the boneyard. Got to fly in her all over Europe, as South America and Africa. The lady sure knew how to travel. I'll try to find some pictures. AT3 Michael Casaceli Brunswick, ME | A UP-3A, originally a P-3A, was recently retired from NAS Keflavik, Iceland, January, 2004. Was part of OMD Keflavik. Aircraft currently stored in Arizona to my knowledge. Interior was all decked out, and was quite fancy for a P-3, bathroom relocated to the front, rear section was a cargo hold, sonobuoy tubes removed, converted into a cargo hold as well, and cargo rack mounted in bomb bay. Great for logistics.
One P-3A is still on Static display across from an F-4 Phantom at NAS Kef. Paint job is exactly the same as the UP-3A from OMD, but the M.A.D. boom is still on the back. It was used for spare parts, till the UP-3A was decommissioned.
That UP-3A few well for her age. 42 years old, yet she looked (and smelled) way better that one would expect. No scent of oil or fuel from her, and the only leaks I noticed was hydraulic fluid from the tail, but it was minor.
I got to fly in one of her last flights, and minus the poor cabin pressure, she flew great, quite stable through the whole flight, the landing was soft and controlled, though it was noisy and cold, as all P-3's are.

Larry Hardman , UT | BUNO 148883 was re engine approximately in 1993, along with
148889 both UP-3A's. I was the power plants chief at NAWC
Warminster. Also did the functional check flight on them since
I was also a Flight Engineer. What a difference those -14

Tor Welch Rocklin, CA | The UP-3A was also used as a "VIP" transport for
certain admirals, politicians,
Chief of Naval Operations, and others.
They were operated by VRC-30 and also a "VR"
detachment of VP-30 (and other squadrons)
for that purpose. They are
probably still in use somewhere, since all VR
(landbased) Squadrons are now part of the
Naval Reserve Forces;
and it just wouldn't seem right for a
Regular Navy Admiral to be flown around by mere Reservists!
