I was a weapons mechanic on the B-57 at Blytheville AFB from late 1957 until the base was deactivated sometime in 1958. To many years ago to remember any names but I think there were three squadrons of B-57s. A great airplane with it's rotating bombay door and always remember the first time I saw the plane start up with all the smoke from the starter cartridge, didn't know if I should run or go for the fire extinguisher..... Remember the only silver one we had on the base came in with it left wing wheel up, made a nice landing but as it lost ground speed the left wing tip hit the pavement and the plane spun off on the grass and sod flew high in the air, once the plane stopped the pilot and co-pilot jumped out and ran, no fire and the plane was repaired and flew again.

your pictures bring back alot of memorys. the black smoke and the noise as 57's started up. i served from 58 to 62 at laughlin afb. tex. i started out as a cdf sentry, and later worked with a k-9s. so i got real close to the 57's and u2s.

I worked on B57's as an aircraft electrician at Stewart Airforce base (1964-66). I loved working on them. The thing
I remember most was when I had to parallel generators. It was very exciting to be that close to the engines when they were running at very high rpm. I remember the B57's
worked on in hangar "E". The only crew chief that comes to mind that I can remember is Ken Loomis. Most of the electricians in my shop at Stewart went to Vietnam.
I was sent to Air Rescue (Lajes Field) in 1966 to work
on HC-130H.

Hello,

Looking for anyone associated with early B-57s of the 13th B/S. Would like to learn from 1st hand experiences (any photos?) We are repping the 13th on a warbird and wish to learn about those early all black Canberra years in order to educate airshow visitors.

Regards!

I really fell in love with the B-57's whem I was attached to the 461st BG at Hill AFB, Utah. I was in the first group of airmen traferred from Hill to Blytheville AFB Arkansas in 1956. I left the 461st when it was deactivated a couple years later and got out of the service to attend college. I have folowed the B-57's with interest on the internet and though the internet I have been able to find out what happened to those many B-57's I crawled over, and watched taking off so many times. I know the B-57's served us well in combat as they packed a very powerful punch.

I was an aircraft electrician (USAF) from '63 thru '67. I worked on the B-57s at Clark AFB and also at Bien Hoa and Da Nang. I have fond memories of these planes from a aircraft electrician's point of view. They were easy to work on and really straightforward, electrically speaking.
A bit of an artist, I used to create nose art on the 57s that were operating out of Da Nang in '66. The pilots and crew chiefs were enthusiastic about doing so but officially, it was a no-no. Consequently, I was provided with a few colors of grease pencils to produce this art with. My efforts drew praise from all who saw them, but after a few missions the slipstream pretty much cleaned off the artwork!
The only one I can recall clearly was my rendition of a evil-looking officer, helmet, goggles and a stogie clenched in his teeth - riding a big bomb with a joystick coming up for him to control. That was 40 years and a hundred and some pounds ago!
