I was stationed at Stewart from late 1963 to mid 1965. I was an "electrical a/c systems guy" (42350) working out of
Hangar "A". I can still remember the first time I had to parallel generators standing near the cockpit and the crew chief running the engine at high rpm. It was totally exciting. I am rather tall and I could look into the cockpit and see the load meters as the aircraft squatted down during the engine run. Loved when the smoke came on start-up.
I was transfered in 1965 to an air-sea rescue squadron in the Azores. A lot of my fellow airmen went to Vietnam.

I was at Stewart from 66 to 68, so I must know a couple of people on this page, especially SSgt Scheffer as we both worked in Hanger A. I worked the Nav side of the Comm/Nav shop and also made one trip to Sembach and another to Ramstein. Add to that, 5 trips to Goose Bay, 2 to Bagotville RCAFB, Grand Forks, Great Falls, Madison WI, Orlando and elsewhere. Good times. Well, except for flying in those C123's and C119's.

I was stationed at Stewart from 1968 to 1969 and then we moved to Otis. I was attached to the 4713th and was crew chief of #251 until discharged in August of 1970. There were a lot of good times and good people that I remember. I was in contact with John Mcgartland for a while and have seen Denny Taddeo, Ron Hofer, Jim Boswell to name a few.I read Chuck Gibson's note( I believe I remember Chuck) and I remember Greg Short and Dan Mazur. I belive Mazur drove a Riviera at the time.I went back to Stewart a few times but it just wasn't the same.It felt strange.

I was stationed at Malmstrom AFB from 1978 to 1979. I enjoyed every minute working on the EB-57E as a jet engine mechanic. It turned out to be a short stay though when we learned at that time that the airplanes were going to be mothballed.

I lived at Stewart from 59-66 while stationed there with my father, SM/sgt Leland Lewis. He loved those B-57's. We went to Clark Air Base from there where he was under the command of Charles Yeager and helped support the missions into Vietnam.

i never will forget when i arrived at laughlin afb. it was midnight.i spent the night at the trans barracks. the next morning i walked over the top of the hill heading for the main part of the base. i came to a stop,i was stunned. i looked at the aircraft. they reminded me of the bat plane from the cartoons.then i seen an aircraft coming in to land,it seemed to be moving about 30mph. i know it was going faster. but thats the way it seemed. i thought ,what in the world have i got myself into.

I (engine shop) was stationed at Stewart from February 1969 until myself and the 4713th moved to Otis in November of that year. Newburgh was a nice area. I really enjoyed my short stay there. Getting to Cape Cod in November is no fun! But, come Memorial Day... WOW! I was discharged in January 1971, before the 4713th moved again to Westover. Still keep up with several friends from Stewart: Greg Short, George Davie, Dick Dibble, Dan Mazur. I've been back a few times. Strange to stand on the same sidewalk so many years later.
