Watching this plane with the Andes as a backdrop was a treat I still remember. During parts of 68 and 69 I was in Mendoza.

I was assigned to the 58 WRS in 1970. I was in the Environmental Systems Shop. I would like to find a picture of or a real F Troop license plate. I am now of course retired from the USAF and living on my ranch in Wyoming.

While stationed at McClelland AFB with the 55th Weather recon Wing, I was assigned as the in route maintenance man for the WB-57C and F aircraft. As I was duel qualified on WC-130B and WC-135B aircraft, I knew very little about the B-57 aircraft, so I had to be a "fast" learner in recovery, inspections, refueling servicing and launching these aircraft. It was a very interesting and rewarding experience. Too bad I never could catch a ride in the high flyer, WB-57F. I went on to the Presidential aircraft maintenance wing. I enjoy this web-site.

I noted while reading today's AW&ST that NASA is flying a WB-57F for photo-recon for shuttle flights, to help ensure that there is no debris damage to the shuttles.

A NASA WB-57, NASA926 to be exact, recently passed over the Midland, Texas area on or about October 12,2006. Our RADAR indicated an altitude of approximately 50,000 ft. We had speculated that it was on a sniffing mission near the jetstream in order to sample the atmosphere after the N.Korea Nuke test.

Walter Henderson and I were in the 1211th and then later the 58th WRS from 1962 to 1966. We were there when the F models came to Kirtland. We worked on the sampling equipment. We had a good time.
