I also served from 1973-1977 with VR-1 as an ATAN/AT3. The C-9B was a "dream",so many great times, so many places. I remember you "Willie" and "Hap",and Skipper Davis. I always talked about those first memories as I flew many hours with VR-55 my second C-9B Squadron. Just like you I'd do it all over again,it was an honor to commision those great aircraft, even now I still catch a "hop" space-A when I can.

VR-57 and RX-159114, 115 & 116...There was/is no greatertour in the Navy. The Acft. and the Dets were second to none! VR-57 1987-91

I'll give a little shout for VR-62 out of Selfrige ANG Base, Detroit. We had two C-9B's JW 511, 513. I was an AMS3 reservist and I loved every minute of it until they closed NAF Detroit. Good times, great crews, memories that will last forever.

I served in VR-1 1973 - 1976 in Norfolk VA as a structural mechanic. As a California lad I hopped a couple of flights to our sister squadron, VR-30 in Alameda for leave. That era crosses my mind frequently and fondly.

Would like to get in contact with any plank owners of the sqd. Missed the 25th reunion because I didn't find out about it until after the fact. After I left VR57 was attached to VR53 Det. Dallas/VR59,and had to fly back and forth to maintain my C9 qualifications each month plus c-118s until we got our first DC9s. Really would like to hear from any one. Since I retired I've made a few round robins with VR-59, and had the chance to go out there for the 737 roll out, but couldn't due to VA appointment, but did spend a week there about two weeks before they had it the roll out. Hoping to hear from anybody if you log on this site.

I began my NAC career in July 1973 as a C9-B Flight Attendant in VR-1 as an AEAN. As I moved up in rank I moved up to Loadmaster (taking my check ride with PRSC "Hap" Chandler) Our Scipper at the time was Capt. Thomas Davis and no finer man ever wore the uniform... He was a hard driver but Lord was he fun to fly with - "Can Do - Where to?" It was a time of TV dinners and fifteen minute turn-arounds. The memories built in to the 2,000plus hours I accumulated before transferring to C-130's are among my most treasured - Rolling into the break low over the new passenger terminal at NAS Cecil Field, Florida (while in formation with another C9-B). Being the loadmaster on 119's initial flight from the factory at Long Beach...What I wouldn't give to go back and do it all over again! And yes even serving 90 TV dinners between NAS Norfolk and NAS Cecil Field!

I am a plank owner from VR-60. I was a dedicated AMS working on several of these DC-9's. VR-60 and VR-52 from 1992-1996. Great people I worked. Not too hard to work on. I painted many in my days. It was a pleasure to have been involved with the VR community.
