SSgt Bob Penny , IL | I was a crew Chief in Ubon in the 60s for Capt B." smooth" Siddall A great pilot. They do not make pilots like that or planes like the F4 anymore. 01/22/2008 @ 22:19 [ref: 19399] |
GARY ORCHARD LUTZ, FL | SAW DOUG JARMANS NAME AND JUST THOUGHT I WOULD SAY HELLO. I WAS WITH THE 433RD AND WORKED WITH HIM IN 1967.HAVE PCTURES WITH 829 AND THE GUYS. 12/08/2007 @ 11:03 [ref: 18850] |
Ken Johnson Tucson, AZ | My father was a F-4 nav. in the 555th 1968 & 69. He has told me some good stories - he had 50+ night missions and over 100 total. I am trying to locate any one who knewflew with him at Udor (Frank Johnson). I am also trying to locate period photos - F4s with OY on tail. Any information will be greatly appreciated. 10/01/2007 @ 20:08 [ref: 18076] |
Doug Jarman Springfield, GA | I was crew chief on F-4C 64-0829 in 1967 at Ubon RTAFB, Thailand. The aircrew assigned was Col. Robin Olds & 1LT Lafferty. On 20 May, 1967, Col. Olds & ILT Steve Croker shot down two MIG-17's on a single flight. The aircraft is currently on display at WPAFB, OH. Unfortunately, Col. (then BG, retired) Olds passed away last June. The F-4 was a terrific airplane. I worked on them from 1963 - 1979.
I'd like to hear from some of the old "Knuckle-draggers" or "Rag-pickers" from Ubon. 09/20/2007 @ 17:36 [ref: 17980] |
Dave Phillips Phoenix, AZ | I had the honor of working on F4C 64-0928 at Nellis AFB in 1967 while it was configured as a test vehicle for the AN/APX-76 IFF suite. It was a very nice aircraft that had spend all of it's life as a test bird at the time.
This was the last of the long run of "C" models, as the "D" production run began with SN 64-0929. 07/30/2007 @ 10:00 [ref: 17352] |

64-0820 may have been assigned to the 480th TFS at the time, which was attached to the 366th TFW at DaNang, and could have obtained the "CS" tail-code there. The 366th utilized an alphabetic sequence for tail codes during that time, with each squadron having its own set. The 389th TFS had AA-AZ, the 390th TFS had BA-BZ and the 480th TFS had CA-CZ. Look close for the "Phantom" emblem on the left intake, holding a gatling gun, a characteristic of the 366th.
I was with the 366th in 67-68, and we had a number of F4C aircraft from the same block. We replaced most with Block 26/27 F4D's during 1967, and the F4C's were parceled out to other units, mostly to the 12th TFW at Cam Rahn Bay.
Regards

Sal Eagle River, AK | The "F-4C" photo at MCAS Kaneohe Bay is actually an F-4S. Only the USAF flew F-4Cs. I went to HS right outside K-Bay in 1982-83 and we lived right outside K-Bay. Used to drive out to the approach end of the runway just to see the F-4S's taking off and landing. Motivated me to get my pilot's license and join the service. 03/20/2007 @ 04:55 [ref: 15968] |
