When they ran out of gas the generator could not make power to use the radio. My father 2 years later made a movie called "The flight of the PN-9. There were originally 3 planes that took of from San Francisco for their flight across the Pacific to Hawaii. The other 2 planes turned back to San Francisco but my father's plane continued on. The went down and made sails from the material on the wings and sailed into a bay in Kawai. They were lost at see for 10 days. They returned to San Francisco to a heros welcome.
