RJ Elvester Miramar, CA | It is not something that can really be confirmed as there were many F-5's that were featured in Top Gun as the so called Mig-28 but it was never clear if any of the actaul jets were re painted for the movie as they were still in active military service... I believe there was one that was repainted and then superemposed on top of all of the logos for the movie but at the same time I had heard the aircraft was scrapped in the late 90's I could be wrong but that is what i read if that is the real jet from the movie then congratulations and I will have to go see it if anyone else has any more information on the subject please post... 09/10/2008 @ 04:02 [ref: 22650] |
Edward Robinson Wayne, NJ | I would like to know were all the ex-alconbury F5's end up. In what museum they are going to. 07/17/2008 @ 14:25 [ref: 22162] |
Keith Pilon , MI | Hello Fellow Enthusiast,
I just found out that the Air show Thunder over Michigan 2008 has a F5-E Schedule in there line up. This will be held August 9 and 10 at the Yankee Air Museum near Detroit. You should check it out.

Adrian R. Clarksville, TN | in '82 I was the contract admin at Conrac supplying the Radar Advisory Displays for F5's.Westinghouse supplied the Radar system...We had a heck of a time getting display tubes to meet the specs...Westinghouse gave us a hardtime about ownership of the design but we kept the engineering at "no charge" so it was propriatory.. 800+ line rate and no scratch, dig,or bubbles were allowed in the 90% center/visible area...Northrop loved the system as it was a space saver at 5-6 in. diag. screen and could handle light of the sun "over the back of the pilot" using a green filter...The last versions supplied was the "Recce" version and spares for Saudi units... just before I left Conrac I had a chance to get in the cockpit and see the unit working... now I supply Borescopes and videoscopes for inspections and just today received a request to replace a set of scopes for F5's somebody is still flying...This was a great airplane for its time... 06/06/2008 @ 07:34 [ref: 21193] |
Dave Dynan Burnt Hills, NY | Greetings F5 Enthusiasts!
I was with the 425th TFTS at Williams AFB, Arizona from 11/73 to 5/77, as an Avionics Systems/Autopilot Systems Specialist. During that time, we had an average of 30-35 F5B's and F5E's. Some were in the Vietnam camo, while others were in the silver paint scheme. Great plane to work on, seeing that just about all of the equipment was accessible with feet on the ground. Our pilots would go against our F4 and later, F15 brothers from the other side of Phoenix at Luke AFB. We did a lot of training of foreign pilots and ground crews from other countries such as Sweden, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, etc. For the most part, these troops were the best from their countries, and worked well with us. Maybe the great weather had a lot to do with their work attitudes! Our most famous F5E was 70-1390, which was the bird that Bob Hoover flew at the Paris Air Show in 1972. Now, I find out that the nearby Aviation Museum has obtained an exUSN Agressor F5E. Sign me up! 02/06/2008 @ 17:49 [ref: 19582] |

JOH J, PANOSKI SCOTIA, NY | I am the Aquisitions Chairman of the Empire State Aeroscience Museum, and we have just aquired an F-5E "TIGER II" from the USN Museum in Pensacola FL. The BUNO is 162307, and the aircraft is painted all black with a large red star on the tail. We have been told that it at one tom flew with VFC-13 at NAS Fallon NV and was featured as a "MIG" in the movie "TOP GUN " Can anyone verify this ? 11/23/2007 @ 17:25 [ref: 18648] |
Tom Fox , TX | Its nice to hear people still remember the aircraft. I was involved with the F-5 when we took them overseas to different countries, PI, and england. I might have meet some of you guys. Mark Fish , FL | I had the pleasure to work 64th aggreesor weapons 84-86 . Where we had to crew jets at nellis and on the road the first was 0074 a f model who's sister ship was lost at hill The pilot ejected safely . 0074 went to williams that week we recieved 71-1417 which later moved to 65 .
I also worked for GD in Key West for vfa-45. Their along with several other's we watched 74-1563 be cut in to by a F-18 belonging to vfa-106 . The aircraft here came from alconberry ( european aggressor squadron) 10/07/2007 @ 00:23 [ref: 18129] |
