Back around 1970 +/- my family was vacationing in Florida, while passing an airport, a funny sounding P-51 was flaring for landing, my dad being a pilot, and obviously noticing the strange sound, took us all to look at this unique aircraft. Man was it nice, the owner/pilot told us it had a fresh coat of Emron,...(it was white with a stripe down it), I think it still had the radiator on it, also I think it had a RR installed instead of the Lycoming.
Anyway, I believe they still have the photo of this 10 or so year old (me) standing next to it. What a plane! The pilot/owner also had a freshly paint piper twin with the same scheme.

What a beautiful aircraft! It really showed the longevity of the Mustang design (even though at the end of its developmnent, the similarities were more aesthetic than anything else). Makes you wonder how many other innovative designs (land air and sea) were put to the political sword. Turbo Prop Mustang, what a dream.
(Note: I just picked Quebec as it wouldn't let me enter a message without choosing a state, even though I am from Australia)

The plane was first built by David Lindsay in Sarasota Fl, by hand ... then 3mil USD form congress produced 3 models, with GE gun and Egland AFB tests against the A-10 , it beat them in all catagories.... except poliical capital hill sports...

I have a customer who wants us to build him a copy of the PA-43 Enforcer, and am trying to locate the drawings. The drawings were delivered to the Air Force, but they are not at Wright Patterson, Edwards or the Smithsonian.

Any lead would be greatly appreciated.

I WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO BE THE SON OF A PERSON WHO WORKED WITH THE ENFORCER. MY DAD,RED HUNTER,HAS PASSED ON. I DO BELIEVE IN HIS PAPERS HAS SOME NOTES AND OTHER THINGS ABOUT THE ENFORCER. I ALSO HAVE A VIDEO OF THE FLIGHT THAT WAS IN CALIFORNIA. HE LOOKED LIKE A MAN IN A CANDY STORE WHEN THE PLANE TOOK OFF. HE WAS SO PROUD OF THAT EXPERIENCE.

If possible I would like to find someone who has pictures of PE-1 FAA reg. N201PE or PE-2 FAA reg. N202PE, with as many pictures as I can get of,(eng. instal, cockpit, cowl, lower fuse, exterior) an any other info they can provide. I would like them for reference in scale model project. I need that right side exhaust version. I hope I have the model correct.
I thankyou for any help you can provide. I was stationed at EGLIN AFB in early 70's, had a briefing on the aircraft but was not there during testing. THANKS

The reason the PA-48 never stood a chance was that AF took it as a threat to the A-10, a plane they didn't particularly want. If the AF was going to get a plane they didn't particualry want, it had better be THEIR plane they didn't particulary want as opposed to a plane they didn't particularly want developed by someone else at lower cost. The PA-48 had half the payload of the A-10 butcould be operated for 1/3 the cost. Congress ordered two PA-48s for comparative purposes, but the didn't specifically order the AF to do anything with the planes, so they were built, delivered to AF and then promptly ignored.

I too was fortunate enough to have worked on the Enforcers while they were built in Lakeland. I worked the empennage section and tail. The components were hybrid being some from the Cavalier Mustang and some were strickly Piper. The primary reasons the Airforce didn't buy them were the tail dragger and the Yankee ejection seat, both have a tendency to maim or kill pilots. Piper did persue the sales of these aircraft overseas but the State Department didn't want to one day face defending our forces from them.

I was lucky enough to work on the Enforcer installing the avionics, and wiring throughout the aircraft, I took many many pictures of this process and still have them. I would be happy to share them if anyone is interested. I still have an Enforcer patch that I proudly wear on my jacket. Beautiful aircraft.
