Can anyone in this group tell me the way to start the 3 engine helo CH53?
I have purchased it for my simulator (Flight Simulator X), but can't get the engines to stay on. The jets just wind up, engage the props, then quit...
I would really appreciate the procedure...being told to me..
George.

I was attached to the 4401st Helocopter Squadron at Eglin in 1965. We were sent TDY with the first 2 Jolly Greens to NKP and attached to Det 1 of the 38th ARRSq. We had Ch-3C # 676 and 685 and we were there from June of 65 through October of the same year.

As an Avionics Tech and Superintendent in the 100 SRW, I worked on the CH-3 with MARS at Davis Monthan, OL20 at Bien Hoa and as needed at DaNang, later at the 6514 Test Squadron at Hill AFB, Utah. Not much problem with CH-3 Nav Aids. Most of the work was on the DC-130,U-2 and in the early days the SPA 147,BQM 34. I as also at Holloman AFB, NM during the 154 RPV program when as I remember some of the crews were in doubt as to wheather the CH-3 had caught the 154 or visa versa and the CH53 was being considered for the MARS.
Does anyone have or know where I can buy or scan a copy of the CH-3 in camofloge with a RPV in tow? I found one early copy with the CH-3 before repaint, Just didn't look normal. Speaking of normal, it always seemed strange when the CH-3s would follow I-10 east then follow the two lane south when going to the range.

My father, Maj. Dick McCabe, was a Dust Devil from Nov '68 to Nov '69 with the 21st SOS. He piloted the Jolly Green Giant. My father passed away recently, 8-10-07, and I was wanting to let others know of his passing and to find out who served with him.

Thank you

I was stationed at D-M in the late 60's. And as a member of the 100 SRW,I flew with the CH-3E's at Da-Nang as a recon camera tech for the MARS drones. Over the past 40 years I have recalled many fond memories of that wonderful old bird. I have been fortunate to revisit the Tucson Air Museum several times since my Air Force days ended in 1969.The CH-3E will always live on in my memories of my flying days in South East Asia.

Flew as a FE on the C/HH-3C/E from 1968-1976 with the 1st HS (Andrew AFB), 20th SOS (Hurlburt Fld.), 21st SOS (NKP Thailand), 39th ARRW (Eglin AFB), Det 15, EARRC (Patrick AFB) & 5040th HS (Elmendorf AFB). The H-3 had to be my favorite helicopter…very reliable & very versatile. Currently a member of “RotorHeads” and I invite everyone to check our website at www.rotorheadsrus.us where we are devoted to preserving the history of all Air Force helicopters.

I also flew the CH-3E with Stehpen Shepard who posted above. I heard through a friend that a reunion for the 350 SRS is being planned. If anyone has information on such a reunion, please send me an email.

Just got back from our 40th reunion at Wright Pattterson, of the 20th Helicopter Sq, Siagon, DaNang, NhaTrang & Udorn in '66. Great to see some of the guys from 40 yrs ago. Hell-of-job to find people and put this together after all this time! We're gonna try to do it again in '08 in Tuscon.
