Doug Stephan (CDR) Meadow Vista, CA | Nice! I was just trying to Google up a picture of the venerable "Seaguard" to show some young pups I work with in SF Bay Area EMS and ran across you old goats!! HA! I guess I'm the young pup here cuz I didn't get into the '52 until '86, but I did get to fly one to the desert from North Bend in '88, with Alda Siebrands and AM1 Ray Sawyer. What a great plane, but then I'm a '55 Chevy kind of guy, never did bond with the '65.
I don't know many of the names in the posts, but I sure recognize some from the list. Here's a couple more from those great North Bend days: Jeff Barker (he works with me now at REACH Air Medical in CA), Al Seidel, Tony (Tiny) Zimmer, Mike Lovett, Dave Wade, Chris Weisman and Jim Cross. I still keep in touch with John Miko and Kurt Carlson too.

I crewed HH52a's out of Annette, AK for about 3 years in the late 60's through 1970. Plane Captain on #1366. Wondered if you are the Ken Farmer stationed there in about 1969?
Great helo, flew 40 hours a month, every month, for a year and a half with Rod Martin, Jerry Taylor, _ Breault, Charlie Brown and Alex Klimschuk(sp?). Only had to fly 4 hours to get flight pay, but hey, I got a lot of stick time for an AD.
Pretty good safety record considering we were flying searches/medivacs single engine over a lot of water, unpopulated territory and at night.

Matt Sprague Layton, UT | Shelley - you gave me my check ride in Cape May in 78 to become a -52 crew - and I remember you (before there were rescue swimmers) going off the platform to swim over and check out a PHI Puma that had crashed and broken into 3 pieces from a MGB failure on its way to an oil rig. I also remember that anyone smoking in the helo would make you airsick LOL....Tom - didn't you get to hoist Charlie's Angels in LA one time a long time ago?
and yah, I've moved to UT - CA was getting too weird for this old country boy...

Shelley Gale Klamath Falls, OR | Flew on the 52's in CGAS Los Angeles from 1972 to 1976 then at CGAS Cape May from 1976 to 1979. Wow the memories that this page brings back! I loved fishing from the rescue platform while floating on the water....never caught anything though. Especially loved the water fights and the volley ball with all the guys. Mike Cusson (AD3) Salem, OR | Logged lots of hours in the 1375, 1455, 1447 during the early 70's. CGAS LOSA and E-City. I ran into one of my friends from that era last year and we reminisced for hours. Found out he lives three hours down I-5.
I have very fond memories of those helos and times in L.A.

Tom Justice , SC | Ah, the 1428. I can remember testing the FLIR system with the guys from Northrop as we flew down the beaches of Los Angeles and video taped the couples screwing on the beach at night. Good times. I can also remember the day when I was the crewman with CDR Milsaps as the pilot and the Northrop ground crew hover-taxied us into the telephone pole. No, not me at San Diego at that time - I came in in '76 - didn't get to CGAS SD until '90 - retired here in '96.
If I can make it on 22 Sept - I'll try to bring along Bob Lowry ADC (ret) - you might know him as well.

Ken Farmer San Diego, CA | Hey Sprague..are you the same Sprague that flew out of CGAS San Diego in the late 60's/early 70's?
If so, we're having a get together for all the guys on Sept 22nd at 11:00 at Johnny B's in LaMesa. Good beer and burgers. Having a reunion as Bill Dodzian has terminal cancer and we're having a send off for him while we still got him. Expect about 20 of the old guys, from Chief's to 3rd classes.

Tardy - I remember you - Bill Charlier - you remember Mike Reilly - he was my roomie at the barracks in Cape May - him, me, and Steve Seaman (don't you remember at one point we had a Seaman Seaman and a Seaman Sailor in PW?)

I'd have flown to hell and back with Chuck Fenning - I think I did once or twice.
he had an engine failure at 400' on approach to Cape May - Terry Neubaum was the crew - just slicked it into the field - we pulled it in and changed the engine.
Another time - everyone was at exactly the right place at the right time - Fenning at the flight desk looking over the books - my stashing my gear in the bird - line crew and duty section sort of mingling about smartly - the SAR alarm went off - the helo was out of the barn and into the air in just about 3 minutes (we caught some heck from the FSO for that one)
