| Barry Erie, PA | Long way from DC if it was one of the ones stationed there.
If one of President Eisenhower's it would have "George" in it. But may have been taken out. At one time on of the 34's was located at Davidson Army Airfield outside of DC when I was stationed there. I believe I was one of the last army pilots to be qualified in the 34 - a choice between the 34 and CH-21. 21 was going to be mothballed soon and so I got the 34. Still have the broken tail wheel pin out of it-custom was that if you forgot to unlock the tail wheel when taxiing and broke the pin-you had to buy the crewchief a case of beer for his trouble in replacing it. Guess that tells you I bought the chief a case of beer huh :) Oh- "George" was the inflight computer. Worked well for taking you from A to B,would put aircraft into a holding circle, and start beeping to tell you that you had arrived at location you had entered. Been so many years that I can not remember if you set the location at latitude/longitude or by coordinates. Ok, George was not that advanced--except that it was designed in 50's ! Only flew 34 for a few weeks before I was sent back to Nam for another tour. Never in one again. I do remember that that radial engine sure had a neat sound though. Good luck in your project.
